You are bidding on an example of the 1884 provisional REVENUE stamp o/p on the 1/- postage issue used on cover to Manchester.This revenue was never issued and was later sold into philatelic market. Examples exist cancelled by favour with postal cancels and covers are recorded but with current postage stamps attached paying the postage rate as stamp itself is not valid for postage. This small cover is posted Freetown Jan 3 1900 , has a Liverpool packet Paid 24 Jan 1900 and a Manchester receiver same date. No due charged and no sign of any other stamp ever being attached. Must have slipped through and probably quiet scarce. Cover is a bit grubby and first two lines of address partialy erased. Part of flap missing.
